Quick & Easy Homemade Barbecue Sauce (All-Natural & Ready in 5 Minutes)

October 31, 2026 By Grumpy

Ditch the store-bought bottles loaded with high-fructose corn syrup, artificial thickeners, and preservatives. This homemade barbecue sauce delivers a rich, smoky kick balanced by sweet brown sugar and tangy apple cider vinegar. With zero cooking required and only a handful of pantry staples, it comes together in a single jar in less than five minutes.

Recipe Overview
Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 0 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes

Yield: Approx. 1 ¼ cups

Dietary: Vegetarian, Preservative-Free

Ingredients
1 cup tomato sauce (plain, unsalted or low-sodium preferred)

¼ cup brown sugar (packed)

2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp paprika (use smoked paprika for deeper barbecue flavor)

½ tsp garlic powder

¼ tsp fine sea salt

Instructions
Add to Jar: Add the tomato sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, garlic powder, and salt directly into a wide-mouth mason jar or blender container.

Blend: Insert an immersion blender into the jar and pulse on medium speed for 30 to 45 seconds until the sugar dissolves and the texture is glossy and completely smooth. (A standard countertop blender or food processor also works).

Taste and Adjust: Taste the sauce with a clean spoon. If you prefer a tangier finish, add an extra teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. For more warmth, add an extra pinch of paprika or black pepper.

Serve or Rest: Use immediately as a dipping sauce, marinade, or baste, or chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to deepen.

Recipe Notes & Variations
Extra Smoke: For a bold, pitmaster-style flavor, use authentic Spanish smoked paprika or add 1–2 drops of natural liquid hickory smoke.

Turn Up the Heat: Add ¼ teaspoon of cayenne pepper, red chili flakes, or a dash of hot sauce.

Warm Simmer (Optional): While this is designed as an instant no-cook sauce, you can also simmer it in a small saucepan over low heat for 8–10 minutes if you want a thicker, caramelized glaze for grilling ribs or chicken.

Storage Instructions
Transfer the sauce to a clean, airtight glass container or mason jar and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Shake or stir well before using, as natural separation may occur over time.
