Easy Cheesy Garlic Onion Bread

August 4, 2025 By Grumpy

Super simple and easy to make…

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast

  • 3 ¼ cups all-purpose flour (more or less as needed)

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder (adjust to taste)

  • 1 tablespoon onion powder (adjust to taste)

  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)

  • Additional cheese for topping

Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast
In a large bowl, gently mix the active dry yeast into the warm water. Let it sit for 10 minutes until foamy.

  2. Make the Dough
Add flour, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder to the yeast mixture. Stir gently until a shaggy dough forms. Don’t overmix—just combine until all flour is incorporated.

  3. Add the Cheese
Mix in the shredded cheese gently until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

  4. Shape and Rise
Divide the dough into two equal portions. Place each portion into a greased 9″ x 5″ loaf pan. Cover with a damp, clean dish towel and place in a warm spot (a microwave with the light on works great). Let rise for 1 ½ hours.

  5. Bake
    Preheat your oven to 425°F.
Bake the loaves for 20 minutes, or until the tops begin to brown.

  6. Add More Cheese
Sprinkle additional cheese on top of the loaves and bake for another 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden.

  7. Cool and Serve
Remove the loaves from the pans and place them on a cooling rack. Let cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.

💡 Tips:

  • Use parchment paper or nonstick spray to make loaf removal easier.

  • Try adding chopped chives, parsley, or jalapeños for extra flavor.

  • Great served warm with soups, salads, or just on its own!
